Turkey Day 4 – Grand Bazar, Hagia Sophia and a Cruise

Grand Bazaar

The oldest shopping mall in the world, now just endless tourist shops, but still very interesting and the building looks the same from centuries ago

We haggled a bit but still probably paid too much for some things.

The tour we are on is trying the best to give us a good range of different things, which includes shopping, that I’m not all that interested in, but I understand while it was added to the itinerary.

It is interesting to get an idea of how people shopped back in the time of the sultans.

We bought a kitty cat cushion for our living room and a bracelet for Ellen. I tried haggling as best I could, but I still probably pay way too much!

Blue Mosque

This was our second time visiting and is truly a beautiful building. As we were with a tour guide, I could spend quite a bit of time just admiring the architecture, built in the 17th century, and they just finished a restoration last year.

Bosporus River Cruise

After a horrible, tourist lunch at a highly overrated restaurant (fatty lamb), we went out on the Bosporus for a river cruise, which would have been great but it was quite chilly so we retreated to the lower decks, and the inevitable guy smoking a cigarette.i

I truly hate smokers.

But the river and views of both Europe and Asia were lovely.
